I was super thrilled when Kavitha @ Edible entertainment asked me to make a post for her 'Cooking with Kin ' series! Thanks Kavitha for giving me my first guest post :)
Falafels have been my childhood favorite.Being brought up in the middle east, shawarmas are an all time favorite. Falafels are deep fried patties/balls made of chick-peas and served with pita bread, salads and tahini based sauces.Read more about falafels here.
I've been wanting to make falafels for a while just that I didn't have an appropriate occasion i guess.
This is how i made it.
Falafels
Makes 8 small patties
You'll need
Chickpeas 1 cup cooked and drained
Onions 1 small chopped finely
Garlic 3 pods
Parsley/cilantro/coriander leaves few sprigs
Green chilli 1(as needed)
Cumin seed powder 1tsp
Coriander/dhaniya powder 1 tsp
Flour 1 tablespoon
Salt to taste
Oil to deep fry
  1. Mash all the above in a mortar and pestle or blitz it in a mixer until a smooth dry mix which you can roll into patties.
  2. I made a paste of green chillies, cilantro and garlic and added it to the chick pea mixture.
  3. Roll them into small patties or shapes of your desire and deep fry.
Yogurt dip/spread
Hung curd 2 tablespoon
Mayonaise 1 tsp
Pepper powder 1/2tsp
Cucumber grated and drained off the excess liquid 1 tablespoon
Onion 1 small chopped finely(optional)
Salt to taste
  • Mix all the ingredients and check for taste and keep it aside.
For the wraps
Chapati/wheat or corn tortilla- 2
Freshly cut vegetables - onions, tomatoes, lettuce (any of your choice)
Yogurt dip from above
Spread the yogurt dip on the chapati and place fresh salad with the falafels ,roll and serve.
Enjoy a delicious Mediterranean dish :)
