Types of Ovens

Whether you’re looking to buy a gas or electric, microwave, convection or an OTG oven, before you hit the stores, you have to make sure the oven you buy is right for you. So, here are the different options you have. Each of them differ in their cooking method, price, space-occupied etc.
(I'm only including the practical ovens in this list. There are a few like earth oven, ceramic oven, masonry oven which cannot be kept at home. If you are interested, you can read here.. :D)
1. Conventional Oven - Conventional ovens are the basic electric or gas operated ovens. In this type of oven, heat radiates up and pushes cold air down which can lead to uneven cooking or baking. However, this type of oven is very common and usually inbuilt in many kitchens.

2. OTG (Oven Toaster Grill) Oven -  An OTG(Oven Toaster and Griller) uses a heating filament as used in a water guyser or ordinary room heater to cook food. It adds direct heat to food to cook it. OTG has heating elements both on the ceiling and the base of the oven. You have the choice of either one or both coils to heat your oven. For grilling, you need to heat the top coil and for normal baking, you need both coils to be heated. You just need to have some time on hand, because Ovens are known for the tasteful food they produce and not the speed of cooking.
3. Microwave Oven - A microwave uses micro waves that pass through the food. These waves use the water molecules in the food to heat up, thereby cooking/baking or grilling the food item. Usually, food cooks faster in microwaves. But you have to follow microwave specific recipes to get good results.

4. Convection Oven - Convection ovens cook food a bit differently. There's a fan at the back that forces air circulation throughout the oven, cooking food more evenly. This also results in quicker heating and is said to consume less power

5. Microwave Convection Oven - Initially considered to be high end kitchen appliances, these are becoming more and more popular with dropping of prices. A convection microwave is a combination of a standard microwave oven and a convection oven. It allows food cooked in the convection microwave to be cooked quickly, yet come out browned or crisped as in a convection oven. For example, a convection microwave oven can be preheated to bake cakes, which is not possible with standard microwave ovens.

That's about it.. Depending on your use, space & budget, make an intelligent choice! :)
